World War II Letter 2

Last time I posted a letter it was from the wife this time it is from the solider (husband).

                                                                   Aug. 25th, 1942

Good morning darling,
I'll bet you think I forgot to write yesterday but I just dated the letter wrong.  It looks like we ready  for sailing honey but I have no information as to when or where.  I got shot this morning.  Don't get excited as it was only the second typhus shot.  I have 1 more typhus a yellow fever & an activating tetanus.  These are given a week a part so I think it could be  Sept. 15th before we are ready to go.  The longer we stay on this side of the ocean the better I like it.
Well tomorrow I will have been here a full 3 months, and it seems like that many years.   Just think what a chance I am missing making money if I could be there.   It's possible that conditions will be good for a few years after things are settled down & if we can pay for a home we can pull through the depression that will follow.
I love you darling more than any husband ever loved his wife and I sure look forward  to the time when I can be with you.
                                                                      Goodbye darling,
                                                                            Your Soldier

  3. These letters are priceless. Interesting that he knew there would be a boom followed by a depression - I hope he was in the investment business!

  5. I love reading old letters! I have a book called Love Letters Lost by Babbette Hines and it is filled with photocopied letters that were found. The romance of it all...just beautiful. You should check out that book! I got it years ago and still love it.

  6. Oh- Doesn't that just make you feel all choked up? To know how much he loved her? I think he was especially wise as to what was going to happen when the war was over! Did you sign up for my giveaway? xo Diana

  8. Wow. I have to wonder how these could end up outside the hands of a beloved family member! I'm glad they're with you - someone who respects them and shares them.

  12. Absolutely beautiful! I inherited my grandpas letters home from the Korean war and I have them in one of his brief cases. I want to do something special with them to display them in my home but I am terrified of ruining them. There is something so special about these heartfelt letters that were sent home that makes everyone smile, laugh and cry. :)
