Wednesday Night July 1st 10:15
Hello My Sweetheart,
Oh if I could only be there with you tonight to sit in your lap and love you as much as I wanted to and just let you see and know how happy I have been since Owen brought me your letter at breakfast and how proud I am of you. I knew you could do it and I knew you would get in the school all right I knew if any of them did you would too and that was part of my prayer each night it was answered. I sure would like to see you receive your diploma and maybe you will be sent to Camp Campbell and wouldn't that be wonderful at least were off to a good start.
I don't know what I would do without your daily letters but if some days you just don't have time to write a long letter, please send me a card with just " I love you " on it and write it in shorthand if you rather. I don't want to be any kind of bother and take up any of your time you might need for your school.
This is just a small sampling of many letters over three years, during WWII, between a married couple this just happens to be from the wife ( could you tell). I just love the way the words flow as is she is actually sitting across from her true love and talking over a dinner. She writes as if the flow of the ink keeps her husband with her and once lifted from the paper he will be gone. When is the last time you received a letter in the mail or better yet wrote one. This is fast becoming a lost art, writing letters. I am going to be posting some excerpts over the next few weeks from these letters. What day I don't know, I just hope you find them as fascinating as I do.
This is so touching...can't wait for the next post! Already I am imagining the rest of the story of this lovely couple....
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to more! xox Kerry
I'm fascinated, too! You can just feel the love in those words. ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect post for today! I, too, am fascinated with old letters and I'm really looking forward to reading more.
ReplyDeleteGreat love story!
I do find them fascinating! Good old fashioned letter writing and penmanship are becoming a lost art. Thanks so much for sharing these sweet words.
ReplyDeleteCool post! I have some old love letters that I find fascinating. Happy Valentine's Day to you!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful post anytime, but extra special on Valentine's Day. You are correct in stating letter writing is fast becoming a lost art. I'm looking forward to more excerpts.
ReplyDeleteI love reading old letters. Letter writing has become a lost art. Receiving a hand written letter is truly a gift.

What wonderful old letters. I love them...and I do try to write a letter to someone now and then. I used to love opening my mailbox and finding a letter in it. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI love old letters. It is too bad that the art of letter writing is being lost. My mother has letters that my grandmother wrote to my grandfather. My grandmother always seemed so stern, but these are such sweet letters.
ReplyDeleteLaura
Old love letters are so romantic. It really is a shame this art is drifting away. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog, I appreciate it. I LOVE your post. A few weeks ago I did a post about all the post cards my Grandma had collected during WWII. My dad and his brother were both in WWII and my Grandma had joined a hankie club were the mom's of servicemen exchanged hankies and letters. I still have the box of all of them. Not sure how to display them, but each time I look at them it warms my heart!
ReplyDeleteTake care, Sue
Letter writing is such a lost art.....thanks for sharing these special letters!

I just passed The Versatile Award onto you! Come on by to accept if you wish.
ReplyDeleteIf you’re not interested, no problem. Just ignore this message…it will soon self-destruct! Have a wonderful day!
What a beautiful letter!
ReplyDeleteI am following you via both GFC and Linky!
So tenderly sweet...a reminder of days gone by...makes me want to write a letter!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love old letters and journals....but, until you said it, I guess I didn't really realize that letter writing truly is fast becoming a thing of our past - and truly so. At Christmas, I still refuse to do the "form letter" thing....I prefer to handwrite a letter (which, inevitably, means no one usually gets a letter) - but it's my rule, and I'm stickin' to it. Thank you for sharing this with us - and I'm definitely looking forward to more....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin (Sorry I've been MIA for so long...praying and hoping you will forgive me....)
ReplyDeleteThey sure knew how to write a love letter back then. Thanks for linking up to the Share the Love Wednesday link party at Very Merry Vintage Style!
